Maybe it’s not depression, but grief for the loss of all the parts of you that had to be chipped away to fit in this world.
Maybe it’s not an anxiety, but the only available expression of the generational rage you and all the women before you have swallowed in order to keep the peace for someone else.
Maybe it’s not ADHD, but the natural adaptation to a culture that teaches us that rest is earned.
Maybe it’s not autism, but the way a brain adapted to a culture that has been in a constant state of trauma for the past couple of centuries or so.
Maybe every single mental health diagnosis used to bill insurance for individuals is actually a diagnosis of our disordered culture.
What shifts for you when the focus of therapy is about healing the wounds of a toxic culture, with an eye towards radical social change?
The best part of being a therapist is reminding people who they are, and watching them remember and come back to themselves. I am experienced with a variety of traditional therapy tools like EMDR, DBT, CBT, and Internal Family Systems, as well as a few less traditional ones, such as exploring your spiritual side, understanding your relationship with your body, and listening to your cycle as a source of body wisdom.
I am also a LPCC board approved supervisor for those who are looking for culturally responsive clinical supervision, with a focus on inoculating the mental health industrial complex with as much queer energy as I can find.
If this sounds like a good fit for you, I would love to connect!
