Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy in Duluth, MN

A new path toward healing—relational, integrative, and grounded in your story.

Online and in-person sessions available.

When “just talking about it” hasn’t been enough...

You’re doing the work.

You’ve tried traditional therapy, maybe even a few different therapists. You’ve read the books, listened to the podcasts, practiced mindfulness, adjusted your routines, and—still—you’re not quite where you want to be.

You feel… stuck.
Foggy. Disconnected.
Like your spark has dulled and no amount of “positive thinking” is lighting it again.

And it’s not that things are falling apart. In fact, you’re pretty dang functional. You’re going to work, you’re spending time with your family, you’re trying to keep up with it all. You might even call yourself highly functional in that you get sh*t done when you need to. But there’s a sense that something is missing—that who you are and how you feel inside don’t fully line up.

That’s where Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) comes in.

The Benefits

Rapid Relief

Many clients experience significant improvement in their symptoms within hours or days, compared to the weeks or months it often takes for traditional antidepressants to take effect.

Enhanced Therapy

The altered state of consciousness induced by ketamine can help patients access and process difficult emotions and traumatic experiences more effectively.

Long-Lasting Effects

While the immediate effects of ketamine are temporary, the therapeutic insights gained during sessions can lead to lasting improvements in mental health.

What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) combines low-dose ketamine with professional, relational psychotherapy to help shift long-held mental and emotional patterns. It’s an evidence-based treatment approach that has shown powerful results for clients experiencing:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Burnout
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Unlike ketamine infusions or esketamine (nasal spray) provided in medical clinics, our approach at Northern Edge Counseling is rooted in whole-person care, not quick doses in isolation. Most clients seen at Northern Edge Counseling for KAP are prescribed sublingual ketamine lozenges that are paired with integrative psychotherapy.

Our approach includes preparation, dosing, and integration sessions in a consistent therapeutic relationship. (Read: we’re with you through each step of the process, and are going to be working at a pace that feels right for you.)

This work isn’t about escaping. It’s about arriving—more fully—into your own life.

Who Is This Work For?

Our Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy clients are often those who feel:

  • Functioning on the surface—but emotionally flat, anxious, or disconnected
  • Stuck in loops of self-doubt, inner criticism, or burnout
  • Like they’ve tried “everything,” but nothing’s quite landed yet
  • Ready for insight, healing, and growth—but unsure how to access it

Importantly, our clients are already engaged (or willing to be engaged) in therapy. KAP isn’t a replacement for talk therapy—it’s a deepening of it. We find it’s most effective for clients who are:

  • Open to self-reflection and developing their personal insight
  • Able to emotionally regulate to some extent (with support)
  • Curious about the mind-body connection
  • Wanting to build or deepen their connection to themselves

We do not provide KAP for clients in acute psychiatric crisis or those looking for a “one-time” psychedelic experience.

What Makes Our Approach Different?

Let’s be honest: ketamine therapy is everywhere now. Infusion clinics. Wellness spas. Mental health clinics.

But at Northern Edge Counseling, we believe that the medicine is only part of the healing. What sets us apart is how we anchor KAP in real relationship and ongoing integration.

Here’s what that looks like:

🔹 Preparation Sessions: You’ll work with a trained therapist to clarify your intentions, build safety, and explore how the medicine can support your personal work.

🔹 Dosing Sessions: You won’t be alone in a room. Your therapist is with you—whether online or in-person—to support the process, offer guidance if needed, and create a grounded space for whatever arises.

🔹 Integration Sessions: This is where the magic lands. We meet after your journey to process insights, explore themes, and begin weaving the experience into everyday life.

We don’t believe in checking out—we believe in tuning in. And we’re with you every step of the way.

Journey Clinical KAP Provider

Northern Edge Counseling offers a therapeutic modality called Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP): the use of ketamine as a complement to psychotherapy. We deliver KAP in partnership with an organization called Journey Clinical, which has a specialized medical team that determines eligibility for KAP, prescribes ketamine lozenges, & supports Northern Edge in monitoring outcomes.

How Ketamine Can Support Your Healing

Here’s what many clients report over the course of 6–8 sessions:

– A softening of inner criticism and shame
– A release of long-held emotional patterns
– Reduced anxiety or depression symptoms
– Greater clarity around identity and purpose
– More ease accessing emotion, creativity, and compassion
– A sense of reconnection—to self, to others, to the world

Clients often say, “I can finally feel me, again,” or “It’s like something just shifted and I can’t unsee it.”

Of course, no one can promise a specific outcome—and KAP isn’t magic. But for many, it opens a door they couldn’t find through traditional therapy alone.

What to Expect

This is not a one-off experience. KAP at Northern Edge Counseling typically involves:

  • 1–2 Preparation Sessions: To build safety, set intentions, and explore internal parts that may be activated during medicine sessions.
  • 6–8 Dosing Sessions: Held every 1–2 weeks, depending on your pace. Each lasts approximately 2 to 2.5 hours.
  • Integration Sessions: Held 24–72 hours after each dosing session to reflect, digest, and apply what’s surfaced.

The sessions can be done in-person at our Duluth office or online (yes, legally and safely).

We partner with a licensed prescriber who will assess medical appropriateness, guide your dosing protocol, and prescribe and provide the sublingual lozenges directly to you.

Is KAP Safe?

Ketamine is an FDA-approved anesthetic used safely in medical settings for decades. In lower doses, it has rapid-acting antidepressant and neuroplastic effects. Side effects during sessions may include dizziness, visual effects, or emotional intensity, but most subside shortly after dosing.

Our job is to help you feel prepared, supported, and grounded throughout.

You won’t be “left alone.” You won’t be forced to go anywhere emotionally you don’t want to go. This work is always collaborative, consent-based, and at your pace.

“What do I do with all of this now?”

If you’ve just had a powerful medicine experience, that question can land with urgency, confusion—or quiet clarity. Any which way, this is right where integration comes in. And at Northern Edge Counseling, we believe this part of the process is where the real transformation takes root.

Integration is not just a recap session. It’s not a debrief, and it’s not optional. It’s where the feet hit the ground after the journey.

In these post-medicine sessions, we help you unpack the symbols, stories, and emotional waves that surfaced during your ketamine experience. Whether your journey brought deep insight, stuck points, grief, or a sense of peace you haven’t felt in years—we sit with you as you begin weaving those threads into everyday life. This is where insight becomes direction. Where story becomes choice. Where healing becomes change.

There’s no rush and there’s no checklist. Integration work is grounded in the same relationship-based, trauma-informed therapy style we use in our individual sessions—because medicine may open a door, but it’s the relational support that helps you walk through it. And when you’re feeling overwhelmed, unsure how to “make sense” of what happened, or scared you’ll lose the clarity you found—this is the container that holds you.

We’ve seen it time and again: clients who engage deeply in integration—through reflection, journaling, movement, mindfulness, and open dialogue—experience far greater shifts than those who skip this part entirely. Insight alone doesn’t create sustainable change. But insight with support, with intention, with a plan? That’s where the alchemy happens.

Because healing isn’t about what happens in a single session—it’s about how you carry it forward.

A Quick Reality Check

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy isn’t for everyone.

It won’t “fix” your trauma overnight. It’s not a shortcut. It’s not a bypass to doing the work.

But when it’s grounded in relationship, guided by intention, and followed by integration? It can be a powerful catalyst for change.

You don’t need to be “broken enough” to deserve this work. You just need to be ready for something deeper, more connected, and more you.

How to Get Started

We begin with a free 20-minute consult to explore whether KAP is a good fit for you. If it is, we’ll guide you through the full process of how to complete your medical screening, what preparation we’ll do together, and what to expect at every step.

Whether you’re KAP-curious or ready to dive in—we’re here to meet you with honesty, care, and a whole lot of heart.

Because you don’t need a new personality. You don’t need a “perfect” version of you. You just need space to reconnect with the self that’s been there all along.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as ketamine infusions or ketamine clinics?

Nope. Our model is relational, therapy-centered, and includes prep, dosing, and integration with the same therapist throughout. We don’t do IV infusions—we use sublingual lozenges prescribed through our partnered provider.

What does a ketamine therapy session feel like?

No two sessions are alike—and that’s kind of the beauty of it. Some people experience vivid imagery, strong emotional waves, or symbolic “stories” playing out in their minds. Others drop into a sense of stillness or quiet clarity they’ve never quite felt before. You might feel like you’re floating, like time doesn’t exist, or like your mind is finally getting some space to breathe.

In our practice, ketamine therapy is done in a supported, intentional setting. You won’t be alone in a sterile room—we’ll be there, holding the container with compassion, curiosity, and a deep respect for whatever your journey brings up. Whether you prefer to process quietly or narrate your experience out loud, we follow your lead.

Can I do ketamine therapy online or do I have to come into the office?

We offer both in-person and online ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for adults living in Minnesota.

For in-person sessions, we offer a calm, relational setting in Duluth that’s designed for comfort and grounding. If you prefer to do your sessions from home, our virtual KAP option allows for legally prescribed sublingual lozenges to be used in your own safe space—with full therapist support via telehealth for prep, dosing, and integration.

Whether online or in-person, the most important part is the relational container we create together—so you can do this deep work feeling held, understood, and safe. If you’re searching for online ketamine therapy in Minnesota or flexible, integrative psychedelic therapy options, we’ve got you covered.

How do I know if ketamine therapy is the right fit for me?

Here’s the truth: ketamine-assisted therapy isn’t a magic button, and it’s not the right fit for everyone. But if you’re functioning in your daily life and feel like something inside is still stuck, KAP might be worth exploring.

It can be especially helpful if you’re:

  • In traditional talk therapy and hit a plateau
  • Feeling disconnected, anxious, burned out, or just… off
  • You want to move through your stuff, not just talk about it
  • You’re ready to show up for the work, but you’re just not sure what “the work” is or how to get to it

We’ll help assess your fit through a screening process and prep sessions before ever beginning any medicine work. And if it’s not the right time? We’ll be honest—and help you get the support you do need.

Do I have to stop my current therapy to do KAP at Northern Edge?

No, definitely not! If you’re already working with a therapist who supports KAP, we’re happy to collaborate. If you’re not in therapy yet, or want to work with one of our clinicians directly, we can get you set up for full-spectrum care.

How much does KAP cost?

Because some components of KAP are not typically covered by insurance, we offer transparent pricing and limited sliding scale options. Currently, your prep and integration sessions can be covered by insurance directly in the same way general psychotherapy is. Dosing sessions are not currently covered, and are an out-of-pocket expense. You’ll also need to budget for medical intake and prescription costs with the prescriber, as insurance does not currently cover these costs.

Is KAP safe for everyone?

KAP is not appropriate for people with certain psychiatric or medical conditions, including a history of psychosis. KAP clients always start with a prescriber-led medical screening to ensure safety, and are medically monitored by their prescriber throughout the KAP process to ensure safety.
